(NEXSTAR) – More than 12,000 packages of sugar cookies sold at Target have been categorized under a Class II recall by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over potential contamination with a “foreign material.”

The recall concerned 10-count packages of Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies produced by the Give and Go Prepared Foods Corp of Etobicoke, Canada, according to the FDA. The reason for the recall was listed as “foreign material (wood).”

Representatives for Target, Give & Go or the FDA were not immediately available to confirm whether there had been any reports of injuries.

Give and Go first initiated the recall on July 22, 2025. On Aug. 4, the FDA categorized the recall as a Class II, meaning the use of the recalled product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” even if “the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

The FDA also confirmed the cookies had been shipped to distribution centers in three states — Connecticut, Maryland and Ohio — and sold at retail outlets in 20 states and DC: Connecticut, Washington DC, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia and Vermont.

The cookies can be identified by the UPC 85239-41250 and the lot number 25195. The “best by” dates on the recalled items “can vary as they are applied by retailer when removed from freezer,” according to the FDA.

A representative for Target said customers with affected Favorite Day products may be able to can bring the items back to the store, with a receipt, for a full refund.
