Trader Joe’s issued a recall notice on Saturday to customers who purchased its steamed chicken soup dumplings, warning the product could contain hard plastic from a permanent marker pen.

The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said that about 61,839 pounds of dumplings are being recalled out of fear they may be “contaminated with foreign materials.”

The soup dumplings, manufactured by CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corporation, are in 6-oz. boxes with plastic trays containing six pieces.

They were produced on Dec. 7, 2023, and were shipped to Trader Joe’s retail locations nationwide.

Trader Joe’s discovered the problem after consumers reported finding hard plastic in the dumplings. There have been no reports of adverse reactions or injury as a result of consumption, but FSIS said it is still concerned that consumers may be keeping the products in their freezers.

FSIS advised consumers not to eat the products and to return to the place of purchase or discard of the items.

The recalled products include lot codes of “03.07.25.C1-1” and “03.07.25.C1-2” on the side of the box. The products have the establishment number “P-46009” listed inside the USDA mark of inspection, the agency said.
