The abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America announced on Wednesday that the group is now rebranding its name to Reproductive Freedom for All.
Reproductive Freedom for All noted in its announcement that the group voted to change the name and following research that the abortion rights organization did that “found that people think of abortion rights and access as a matter of freedom.”
“The fight for abortion rights and access is at a critical moment. With the coalition of Americans who support reproductive freedom growing by the day, our leadership identified a clearer and more inclusive path forward to mobilize this new and expanded base of support,” said Mini Timmaraju, president of Reproductive Freedom for All, in a statement.
“Reproductive Freedom for All is a demand, a call to action, and a vision of the future we’re fighting for. Together, we’re going to make that vision come true,” she added.
Abortion played a critical role during the November midterms after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade — ending the constitutional right to abortion — helping Democrats retain the Senate. Democrats lost the House by a narrower margin than expected, curbing what was anticipated to be a “red wave.”
Democrats and abortion rights advocates are looking to put the issue front and center in several elections slated to take place this fall in addition to the 2024 elections.
