Gov. Jim Pillen (R-Neb.) was hospitalized on Sunday after being bucked off a horse, according to his office, which said he is “alert and is in continuous touch with his team.”
In a Sunday press release, Pillen’s office said he and family members were on horseback when he was bucked of a “new” horse.
Pillen was transported to Columbus Community Hospital, then later “out of an abundance of caution” was transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
“The Governor is expected to remain at UNMC for several days,” Pillen’s office added.
Pillen began serving as governor last year. In the 2022 Republican primary, he toppled a candidate backed by President-elect Trump.
“Gov. Pillen and his family are very appreciative of the thoughts and prayers given to them by Nebraskans and they wish all Nebraskans a very merry Christmas,” Pillen’s office said.
